We've spent decades on the other side of the table - building enterprise technology companies, sitting on partner advisory councils and technical advisory boards for HPE, Dell, Pure Storage, VMware, Commvault, Atlassian, and others, and leading technology strategy through a PE-backed consolidation. We bring that operating and advisory experience to board and advisory roles where it can make a real difference.

We believe the next generation of builders deserves more than theory. Through hands-on mentorship and advisory programs with students and emerging founders, we bring real-world technology and business experience to the people who need it most - helping them understand not just what AI can do, but how to use it to create real opportunity.

People come before everything. Before AI, before money, before growth metrics. Technology is a tool in service of people, never the other way around. If what we're building doesn't make someone's life meaningfully better, we're solving the wrong problem.

AI Native

Every venture we build or invest in is designed for maximum automation from the ground up. Digital transformation was the first wave of disruption. Agentic AI is the tsunami behind it. We automate every system and process we can so our people focus on the work that actually needs them. This isn't optional - it's table stakes for any business that intends to remain relevant, much less competitive.

Build What Matters

Not what's trendy, not what's easy to fund, not what looks good on a pitch deck. Start with a real problem, build the right solution, do right by the people involved, and the returns follow.

MastLight is built around three things: building, investing, and advising. We incubate and build AI-native ventures - some ideas years in the making, some recent, drawn from enterprise experience and from life closer to home. We invest selectively alongside the right opportunities and the right people - whether that's an AI-native startup or an established business ready to make the technology leap. We launched in early 2026 and we're growing deliberately. Steve leads MastLight with a senior advisory group behind the scenes, a network of engineers, designers, legal, and domain specialists brought in as each venture needs them, and active conversations underway to bring on additional leadership. We run highly automated, AI-native operations - small teams amplified by agentic systems, not headcount ahead of the work.

No. MastLight Ventures is not a venture capital fund. We don't pool outside capital or operate as a regulated investment vehicle. We're a privately held company that builds ventures, invests our own capital selectively, and takes advisory roles where we can add value. We welcome co-investment opportunities with aligned partners.

Yes. There's a growing wave of builders turning great ideas into working prototypes with AI who need help with what comes next: product strategy, production-readiness, security, IP protection, legal, incorporation, financial modeling, fundraising, go-to-market, and all the operational work that turns a good idea into a real business. Our investment isn't always capital. Sometimes the most valuable thing we bring is decades of experience building and scaling companies, applied directly to what you're working on. Automation. Every system, workflow, and process built to run with maximum automation from day one. Not AI for AI's sake - it's about clearing the repetitive, low-value work so the people involved can focus on what actually needs them. Agentic AI is how we accomplish that - and it's a materially different thing than adding a model to an existing product and calling it AI-native.

AI-native means agents are the operating core - not a feature. In practice, that means:

Agents are highly capable, persistent tools - with defined roles, persistent memory, and expertise that builds over time. They don't start from zero each session.
Human-in-the-loop is a design choice, not a limitation. Every workflow has an explicit model for what runs autonomously and what surfaces to a human.
Observability is non-negotiable. If you can't trace what an agent did, why it did it, and what it cost, you've built a liability.
Start simple, earn complexity. Working software before elegant architecture.

No. Despite deep experience in responsibly deploying AI in the enterprise, including the challenges around security, compliance, and governance, we don't do contract or time-and-materials engagements. Our focus is on building our own ventures, investing in the right companies, and advising at the board and strategic level.
